Torsion Springs
The torsion springs allow you to lift up those heavy garage doors. In genera, they have a life cycle of about 10,000 cycles - or about 7-10 years. So if you live in a place long enough and actually use your garage door, you'll need to replace these at some time. A service fee will be around $200-$800 depending on who you have coming out to your place. The parts will cost about $10-$20 wholesale or about 3 times that if you buy them yourself. Plus if you do it yourself, you'll know that it was done correctly, as long as you do your research and do it right. Unfortunately, there is potential for injury here, as whoever is installing your springs will most likely be working with springs under a good deal of tension.

Dan at DDM Garagedoors.com recommends these:
a pair of matching 46.25" - 1 3/4" ID - .250
This is what worked:
Mark hole pointing at you.
32 quarter turns/8 full turns upwards on each side.
To tension the springs, insert the bars completely and push UPWARDs.
The hole you marked should be facing you when done.
When done with the 32 turns, mark shaft and stretch 1/4 inch and secure. This prevents binding.
Use 2 bars of 1/2"x18" steel to tension the springs.
