Knight Weapons

Weapons

Knights had a large assortment of weapons, which evolved as more and more people had armor and as the effectiveness of armor and fighting techniques both improved.

Sword

This is a very versatile and iconic knight's weapon used to cut and stab. These started out as a short bronze stabbing weapon and evolved to become 6 foot long 2 handed giants able to compete against pikes and be thrust between plates of armor.  Because of their great penetrating and slicing ability, these are great against dragons, especially when they are magical.

War Hammer

As armor evolved to be as hard their steel sword counterparts, swords became less and less effective.  A war Hammer could deliver a hard blow to an opponent, with less of a concern of glancing off of the armor.  The spike end was sharp enough and had enough mass behind it to penetrate or dent the best of armor.

Mace

This was a very easy to build weapon which worked similar to a warhammer, but had a ball-like end.  This allows the mace to strike an opponent from any side of the mace itself.  Later improvements to the mace included knobs to help penetrate armor and then multiple flanges for even more improved armor penetrating ability.

Flail

A flail is a stick with chain and single or multiple metal balls at the end of the chain.  The merit of the flail is that it could be swung with great force at an opponent and could wrap itself around a shield or sword to strike an opponent.

Battle Axe

An axe can deliver a powerful blow to an unarmed opponent.  A hammer or spike on the backside could be used against armored opponents.

Polearms

These were metal tipped spears of the day.  Some had axe blades and hooks to slice and grab opponents.  These were very effective against foot soldiers and cavalry alike.  Several other long poled weapons were used at various times to include the polearms and halberds.
