Official Grail Diary Pages

For those wishing to create a Grail Diary that actually looks like something that would be used by Henry Jones Sr, you may want to copy as much of the the actual prop pages as you can. One option is to watch the Last Crusade and take detailed notes on the few fleeting glimpses of the inside of the Grail Diary. And this is exactly what many prop replicator diehards have done. Unfortunately, only a few pages are "shown" and you don't get to see them in "hi res". But luckily for the neurotic Lucas film enthusiasts out there, there a few close ups available.

Star Wars to Indiana Jones: The Best of the Lucasfilm Archives
Author: Mark Cotta Vaz
Hardcover: 208 pages
Paperback: 216 pages
Publisher: Chronicle Books; 1st Ed. edition (January 1, 1995)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 0811809722
ISBN-13: 978-0811809726
Product Dimensions: 12.1 x 9.2 x 1 inches [Hardcover]
Product Dimensions: 11.6 x 8.6 x 0.9 inches [Paperback]

Star Wars to Indiana Jones: The Best of the Lucasfilm Archives show 14 shots (28 pages) of the Grail Diary prop used in the Last Crusade.
This book shows 14 sets (left and right page) of what found in one of the Grail Diaries. It is important to note that several Grail Diary props were produced for the movie and that the page order differs in each. It is also believed that some of the pages found in the b-props were not present in the A-prop (hero prop).

There are concerns that the diary used in in Star Wars to Indiana Jones: The Best of the Lucasfilm Archives (assuming that all the pages show are from a single diary) may not share the exact page order as the "hero prop" used in the movie. Above, you can see that this Lucasfilm Archives page does not match up with the page seen in the movie. This means that the movie used a different diary or different signature/page within the same diary for that scene.

There is also mention that the Lucasfilm Archives diary was created after completion of the film.

Other Pages
There are believed to be at least 10 B-prop Grail Diaries made for the film. These have differing page orders and can even contain pages not found in the A-prop "Hero Diary".
Unique pages found in the B-prop Grail Diaries include.
Gulf of Akabah (photocopied) page
Robert the Boron page
1905 map page
Black Stone Floorplan
Rock Slide page
Leap of Faith spread
One of the B-prop versions of the ''it is possible to see behind'' page is placed on the right side of the spread, where as it is found on the left side in the A-prop.
The A-prop (Hero prop) and several of the B-prop diaries used 100grams smooth Ivory paper.
Some of the B-prop diaries had different paper with vertical lined texture. One such diary is in the possession of a Swede (Isberg collection) and another is believed to be in the possession of Keir Lusby, the creator of the Grail Diaries used in the film.

The map show on the right hand side of the right spread above is a purely hand-drawn addition to the left hand side map in the left spread above. When the two pages are put together they make quite a nice spread. Below is a digital reconstruction of what this would look like. Note that this particular page only appears in "B" props and is not present at all in the hero "A" prop diary.

The page on the right is the companion page to the "God Is Love" page. This particular page only appears once in any prop diary as it was printed on the back of the Venice Stained glass window spread (along with the "God Is Love" page).
If you look closely, you will notice that the top of the left chalice goes into the spine, and that line comes out on the left side of the "God Is Love" page.

The above images are in order per the Comic Con demonstration video shown above. When the fold out map is shown, you can clearly see "19 of 100" above it in the video, suggesting that there are 100 slides. You can see a thumbnail of the fold out map, which is also the 19th thumbnail reading left to right, top row to bottom row.
The first 19 slides above are unique slides shown in order (at least per the IPad order). This is followed by a thumbnail screen where the Brandon Alinger of prop store selected an earlier slide and repeats 6 slides starting from number 19 (fold out map).

Lot Notes
The plot, in this the last in the trilogy of Indiana Jones films, centres on the search for the Holy Grail, the most sought after Christian relic. Dr. Henry Jones, Indiana's father, has devoted his life to seeking out the relic, and his diary is central to the plot. The diary contains intricate drawings, notes, data, maps and descriptions of obstacles that will bar the seekers way, the culmination of years of research, which are clues to the whereabouts of the Holy Grail, which is hidden in a lost temple. Indiana is drawn into the search when his father mysteriously disappears and all he has to go on is his father's 'Grail' diary.

We get a small view of the Grail Diary opened to the 3 trials page (bottom right corner of C-3PO image). This suggests that there are 2 blue train tickets.

Abstract: For the past 15 years, artists at San Rafael, California-based LucasArts Entertainment's visual-effects division, Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), have been innovators in the field of special effects. ILM has produced spectacular visual effects for more than 50 films and has attracted more business than its five major competitors combined. Established in 1975 when George Lucas began work on Star Wars, ILM continues to design increasingly sophisticated and imaginative effects. Their creation begins in the ILM art department, which develops the initial storyboards that guide other ILM artists and technicians in the often complex production of background paintings, creatures, models, and film images. Increasingly, computer graphics artists at ILM are using their talents to produce unprecedented digitized images. Several ILM special effects are discussed.
