Grail Diary Font and Handwriting

The presentation of your written text can really bring your Grail Diary to life and look like something that was put together by the lifelong work of a 19th century English educated professor or make it look like it was put together by a second grader with a crayon.
Ink
If you plan on any type of page aging after you write or print your diary, you MUST use waterproof ink. Otherwise, entire pages will be ruined during the aging process.
India Ink
For those using a fountain pen, India ink seems to work fine and is resistant to water.
Printer Ink
For those that choose to print text and/or images with a printer prior to binding, note that most inkjet ink will run if you get your page wet.
Some inkjet inks are reportedly waterproof.
Special paper and treatments will allow you to print on paper or cloth so that the ink becomes permanent.
Laserjet printers use high heat to bind toner to paper. This is creates a printed product which is more resistant to water.
Pencil
Certain parts of the Grail Diary have thin lined drawings that appear to be done with a pencil. The consensus is that only the Map with No Names and the few details on the Eschenbach Insert are done in pencil.
Penmanship
If you want your diary to look authentic, you will want to make the journal entries look like they were hand written with a Jones Period appropriate pen and writing style. This can either be done with a special computer font, or manually with a good pen. Grail Diary diehards have spent years developing their writing style to perfectly mimic that of "Henry Jones" as it is portrayed in the Grail Diary props.

Here is an example of the font found in the actual Grail Diary. Note that, like all of us, Professor Henry Jones' handwriting varies a great deal, so some of these letters will vary from word to word. This is in part what makes creating realistic computer font difficult.

Writing Nibs
Here are some samples of Henry Jones’ Grail Diary handwriting (left column) taken from page 191 of The Star Wars Archive, together with attempts (right column) to reproduce similar writing with three different nibs. The Jones writing has been produced with an italic nib of some sort. In all three samples, we see fine entry strokes and thicker down strokes (see the ‘s’ in the word ‘slight’ in the first sample, for instance).

This is written using a 0.8mm STUB nib, custom ground from a Pelikan B nib by Richard Binder. The entry strokes seem to be a bit too Thick.

This is written using a 0.9mm CURSIVE ITALIC nib, custom ground from a Pelikan B nib by Richard Binder. The finer entry strokes look about right, but the nib is perhaps a touch too broad.

This is written with a 0.8mm CURSIVE ITALIC nib, custom ground on a Rotring Core fountain pen from Pendemonium. This looks quite good, but will perhaps be better once the nib has been written in a bit more.

Indy Magnoli recommends a .75mm chisel tip nib
Computer Fonts
For those that just don't have the skill, aptitude, inclination or time to perfect their penmanship and fill a diary full of text can give up and use one of many appropriate computer fonts. There are also special fonts for various inserts.

Spelling
There are a few grammatical and spelling anomalies in the Diary. Die hard diarists try to mimic these spelling quirks, but it begs the question. Why would a 19th century Oxford graduate have such poor English writing standards.
Date Format
A Scotsman/Oxbridge grad would use a date/month/year format, as traditionally used in the UK, instead of the month/date/year format used in the United States.
Journal entry dates were used in the Computer Game Grail Diary diary but not in the actual props. Dating scientific journals is useful but is not "prop" accurate to the original Grail Diary prop.
